Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk Volunteer Diver Program

Maritime Aquarium Dive Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Able to commit to at least 5 days during holiday dive program.Dates are 11/26, 11/27, 11/28, 12/4, 12/5, 12/11, 12/12, 12/18, 12/19, 12/22, 12/23, ( possible 12/24), 12/26, 12/27, 12/28, 12/29, 12/30, ( possible 12/31)
  • Able to commit to a acclimation dive in the open ocean tank, dates to be determined.
  • Time commitment 41/2 hrs per day assigned
  • Act as a safety observer /dive assistant, not just diving in tank
  • Minimum 25 logged dives
  • Minimum certification: Advanced open water diver
  • Signed liability waiver form
  • CPR/ First Aid recommended not required.
  • Must be willing to dive with large marine animals, including sharks
  • Signed PADI medical release form
  • Provide own equipment: mask, fins, buoyancy compensator, weights and regulator, weight belt, hood, boots, and gloves.
  • Must pass a buoyancy check out dive
  • Fill out a completed volunteer divers application & interview
  • Background check

SHARK & U853 DIVE

Join us on July 11th and 12th on the Sea Turtle.  We will be doing shark dives and the U853.  The boat leaves from Montauk at 6:30 AM on Saturday morning.  We will be docking at Block Island on Saturday after the dives for dinner at a local restaurant.  You can sleep on the boat or make arrangements at a hotel on Block Island.   After the dives on Sunday, we will return to Montauk.  Cost $475 per person.

ANDI Complete SafeAir User Program (CSU)

Complete SafeAir User  (CSU - Level 2)
Text: The Application of Enriched Air Mixtures
The CSU course is the Advanced SafeAir” Program and builds upon and expands the material introduced in the LSU course. It covers the information necessary to make use of all 8 of the ANDI identified applications of SafeAir within the sport diving limits. Those completing this course are certified to use all SafeAir mixtures, including SafeAir 50. This program requires 8-12 hours of lecture and two open water orientation/training dives.

Pre-requisite: Open Water Certified
NOTE: Part one (classroom) and part two (Open Water) are to be completed satisfactorily prior to CSU certification. A part one certification may be issued upon satisfactory completion of all classroom requirements. This certifications may be used to complete the two logged SafeAir dives required for full certification.

Classroom July 16th and 20th starting at 6:00 PM
Course completion 2 tank dive Saturday July 25th

Course Fee $295 which includes student materials
Course Completion Dive $130 including SafeAir fills

DEMO DAY

The gang just got back from diving the G & D (Yankee) on the Jeanne II. Mike Carew, John Garisto, Chris Sundial and Rick Yarmy caught scallops, a 5 and 2 pound lobster. They also got some brass from the ship.
